  • Automated Pallet Unwrapping: Safety and Loss Drive Unique End-Effector Robotic Solution

    by Donna Wolfe | Feb 17, 2017
BW Container Systems was approached by one of the most well-known beverage producers in Taiwan. This client has been in operation since 1925. At the time they approached BW Container Systems, the client had a unique challenge. They were manually unbagging and unwrapping bagged and wrapped pallet loads of product. The fact that this client was receiving pallets that were bagged and wrapped presented a real challenge to the operation. This was a time consuming process and, at times, a dangerous one. They needed an unbagger/unwrapper solution that would handle both formats without damaging their product.

    by Donna Wolfe | Jan 09, 2017
When you work with BW Container Systems, you can bet they’ll go to the “ends of the earth” to solve your packaging challenges. Literally. Click the video to watch as BW Container Systems’ Scott Smith takes you on a journey to see innovative robotic solutions in one of the most beautiful, remote and treacherous parts of the world. BW Container Systems recently made the 30-hour long journey over snow-capped mountain tops, green foothills and bright blue waters, to visit Trident, one of the largest seafood companies in the U.S. The company’s main processing operation is located in Alaska’s remote Aleutian Islands, and if you’ve watched television shows like the Deadliest Catch, you know that the fishing grounds around the Aleutian Islands really are the end of the earth. We decided to document the journey itself, as well as the innovative robotic technology that enables Trident to palletize 21 SKUs at a time and ensures that Trident team members have to spend as little time in the freezer as possible. This solution was accomplished with BW Container Systems’ technology consisting of three very innovative robotic palletizer systems utilizing a unique rotary design.

  • In the Buff with Don Steeber

    by Donna Wolfe | Nov 06, 2015
“In the Buff” is an opportunity for Don to ’get real’ and talk candidly about a subject on which he is recognized as a Global thought leader…..buffering and accumulation. Don’t worry, he does it with his shirt on. Q. Don, some consider you the creator of modern day buffering and accumulation, what drove you to develop these solutions? Back in the 1980’s I was vice president of operations of one of largest Coke packers in the United States. While there, I recognized a need for mechanized accumulation systems because (at that time) it was being done by human beings, hand stacking, that sort of thing. I found that I had – my very, very, most important and best people doing a menial task and while they were doing that, they were not doing their important task, quality checks and running their machines.

  • The World is Flat

    by Donna Wolfe | Nov 06, 2015
For centuries, it was assumed that the World was flat. Through the diligent work of scholars and mathematicians, aided in no small part by Discoverer Christopher Columbus, it was ultimately determined that the Earth is indeed round. For the modern Packaging World, the reverse has come true. For over a decade, many of the most popular accumulation solutions were round (and tall), so it was widely assumed that the “buffering and accumulation” segment of the Packaging World was round. However, through the work of efficiency-seeking, safety-conscious packaging professionals and a modern day Discoverer, it has been determined that the best method of buffering and accumulation is ultimately....Flat.
